New Wage Rates for Fuel Retailers (Sector 5)
The Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO) has concluded a new three-year wage agreement for Sector 5 Fuel Retailers. These new minimum wage rates are effective from 1 October 2025.

New Medical Insurance Allowance
For the first time, a healthcare allowance has been incorporated into the wage structure for fuel station employees.
- Amount: R0.44 per hour (or R19.62 per week)
- Effective Date: 1 January 2026
- Requirement: This allowance must be itemized on the employee's payslip.
Future Increases (2026–2028)
The agreement sets out increases for the next two years to provide stability for employers and employees:
- Year 2 (2026/2027): 5% increase for Forecourt Attendants; 4% for Cashiers and Chars.
- Year 3 (2027/2028): 4% increase for all categories.
Employer Action Steps
- Update Payroll: Ensure your payroll system is updated with the new rates before the first pay run in October 2025.
- Medical Allowance: Prepare your systems to add the R0.44/hour medical allowance starting January 2026.
- Display Rates: Display the new wage tables in a visible place for all employees to see, as required by law.
