New MIBCO Council Levy Update

MIBCO has announced an update to the Council Levy contributions for 2025.

The New Rate

Effective from Monday, 3 February 2025, the new MIBCO Council Levy is:

R3.14 per week

(Payable by both Employer and Employee)

Breakdown

  • Employee Contribution: R3.14 per week
  • Employer Contribution: R3.14 per week
  • Total Weekly Contribution: R6.28 per employee

Who Must Pay?

This levy is mandatory for all employers and employees falling under the registered scope of the Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO) in South Africa.

Compliance Checklist

  1. ** Payroll Update:** Adjust your payroll software to deduct R3.14 (previously R3.00) starting from the first pay period in February 2025.
  2. Arrears: If you missed the February implementation, calculate the arrears owed and submit them with your next return to avoid penalties.
  3. Online Returns: Ensure your MIBCO Online Return reflects the new values. The system should update automatically, but it is the employer's responsibility to verify accuracy.

Why the Increase?

The Council Levy funds the administrative functions of MIBCO, including dispute resolution, collective bargaining facilitation, and social security fund management. The increase ensures the council can continue to provide these essential services to the industry.
